Theodorus’s square-root sail in C
A complete program. Standard C, a compiler, and the rule behind the shape.

FROM SOURCE TO SHAPE
Run it in three steps.
- Save the source.
Download geo-theodorus.c into a folder on your computer.
- Compile it.
In that folder, run this with GCC or Clang:
cc -std=c11 -O2 geo-theodorus.c -lm -o geo-theodorus - Make the image.
./geo-theodorusOpen
geo-theodorus.svgin a browser to see the result.
On Windows with GCC, name the executable geo-theodorus.exe and run it from the same folder.
THE RULE IN THE PROGRAM
How the picture is built
Successive right triangles share the previous hypotenuse. Adding a perpendicular unit side makes the squared radius increase by one, producing the square-root spiral.
Make it your own
TRIANGLES = 110; allowed 5..700.
This is a finite chain of exact right triangles, drawn with floating-point coordinates; it is not a logarithmic spiral. Each run produces one image; use Graphic mode for the interactive animation.
